DIFFERENT TYPES OF COMPUTER VIRUSES
There are many different types of computer viruses. They all operate and infect differently. However, the end-result for all of them is damage.

Below are the more common type of computer viruses.

-- Viruses - A virus is a small program that is downloaded when you willingly install another program that is seemingly harmless. For example, a virus can attach itself to a music file. Every time you listen to this music file that you downloaded, the virus runs and attacks the other files and programs on your computer.

-- E-mail viruses - An e-mail virus is launched on your computer when you open an infected attachment attached to an email. Not only will an email virus start effecting your computer once you open the attachment, it can forward this bad email to everyone listed in your email address book.

-- Worms - A worm is a tiny portion of software that breaks through holes in security networks. Once the worm gets into your system, it will duplicate and grow and cause damage.

-- Trojan horses - A Trojan horse is a computer program that claims to do one thing, but does another. For example, a trojan program can come in the form of a game. When you run this program, instead of being entertained, your computer is damaged.

-- Spyware - Spyware is software that is downloaded on the computer as a result of clicking on ads on the internet. Spyware will bombard you with pop-ups and will place hyperlinks on web sites for the spyware's advertisements, instead of the real advertisements. Spyware can also steal your identity by looking for credit card numbers and other personal information on your computer and even by recording what you type on your computer.
