COURT ACTION
This is subject in which you never want to get
involved in. Suppose you neglected to pay your cable
bill and a judgment has been issued against you. As a
result you will see activity on your credit report under
the heading 'negative information'. This black mark will
be present on your record for seven years.
Tips: Most consumers are unaware that unsatisfied
judgments are more impacting than those paid off.
Therefore, reaching out to your original creditor to try
and negotiate an arrangement is a wise idea. Usually,
judgments are not reported with the company through
which you received your judgment, but rather go through
the third party agencies that have dealt with the court.
It is also important to note that they are not as fast
as credit card companies when it comes to reporting
accounts that have been satisfied. Therefore, if you
have paid off your account, you should submit a dispute
to all three of the credit reporting bureaus to expedite
your account being marked as current. You will probably
want want to submit a dispute to the credit
reporting agency stating that the account has been
satisfied.
Also, you could add a statement to your credit report
explaining why this mark is uncharacteristic of you.
Perhaps you got in a bad situation with large and
unexpected medical bills and that set you back. Adding a
comment may help you with lenders who look at full
reports, which mortgage lenders do.
