AVOIDING GOING INTO DEBT WHILE ON VACATION
Going on vacation is one of life's most rewarding
luxuries. However, if you are not careful, you can end
up thrusting yourself into an irreparable hole of debt.
Going on a holiday can be very expensive and it is very
simple to cave into the temptations of spending more
money than you planned on. If you are utilizing credit
cards for making purchases, and your spending gets
crazy, you are going to have a very big problem.
Even though though vacations have some money spending
pitfalls, that does not mean you should not treat
yourself with a trip. You just have to be spend wisely.
This means setting a budget for yourself, and sticking
to it. Below is some advice that you can utilize to
ensure that you have a pleasant vacation, that you can
afford.
Negotiate
The business of tourism is very competitive. It is very
common for hotels and tour operators to offer vacation
deals and packages. It is important to note that you
will likely have to ask about such offers, otherwise
they will not be presented to you. You should also
inquire about upgrades on transportation and/or your
hotel room as well as discounts on travel tours and
attractions. It will not work all the time, but it does
not hurt to ask!
Avoid high volume tourist areas
Having to deal with big crowds is the last thing you
are going to want to have to do deal with while on
vacation. You will not have a good experience and will
likely end up spending way too much money for your trip
when traveling to a 'tourist trap'. Before booking any
trip, do your research. There are plenty of sources
online that will help you find a beautiful, less
traveled destination. Doing this will allow you enjoy
your experience, while saving money.
Make sure you have everything you need before you go
away
The cost of traveling necessities are going to be
expensive no matter where you go. So make sure you buy
all of your sunscreen, Tylenol, film, and everything
else before you travel. A good idea would be to make a
list and determine what you are going to need prior to
your departure.
Try and obtain coupons for meals
Any time you visit a new city or town, the first
place you should stop at is the visitor centre. You will
likely be able to get a hold of coupons for great
discounts at local restaurants. Using these
coupons will allow you to save a tremendous amount of
money. Also, if there is a fancy restaurant you want to
go, go for lunch. Lunch prices are usually much cheaper
than dinner prices, and the food is exactly the same.
Bring your own food
Besides the cost for travel and hotels, eating is going
to be the most expensive expense. If you can, bring
non-perishable goods with you, especially for eating
snacks. Try and find a hotel that offers microwaves
and/or stoves. Being able to cook for yourself is a big
money saver. Even if you do not bring food with you, you
will be able to visit a local supermarket and stock up
on all the items you want.
