DISCOVER STUDENT CLASSIC CARD
This credit card is specifically designed to meet
the needs of students with no credit histories. As a
result, approvals for the Classic Card are simple for
those that lack credit histories. However, if you have
poor credit, you should not apply for this card.
Students with bad credit should check out the
Orchard Bank MasterCard.
Some of the major
benefits of the Discover Classic Card include:
- Cash rebates of 5% on purchases at
participating merchant stores.
- Double cash-back bonuses through gift redemption programs and rebates
with partnering discount stores.
- Bonus points will remain valid forever as long as your credit card
account stays active for three years.
- Offers one of the best fraud protection services out there. The
Discover fraud department will be notified immediately
if the card is being used irregularly. The card will
also be temporarily deactivated until the charges are
verified by the account holder. The Classic Card also
offers 100% protections against
identity theft.
Downsides of the
Discover Classic Student Credit Card:
- Finance charges are calculated based on a two-cycle average daily
balance system. Meaning, if you carry a balance for two
months, your interest rate costs are going to be based
on the average of the outstanding balance of these two
months. If you pay your bill in full every month, the
billing cycle will not be an issue.
- Another negative of this card is the lack of internationally
acceptance. Unlike Visas and MasterCards, Discover cards
are not as widely used in International countries.
